About Me

Hi, my name is Heather! My husband Mark and I love to spend time outdoors and garden. Mark has his BS in Crop and Soil Science from MSU, and I have my BS in Biology from Valparaiso University… You could say we enjoy life’s processes and the science behind it all, especially agronomy and anything to do with plants! I recently started blogging as a way to share my passion and enthusiasm for all things garden and fiber arts related.

When I started out, I found resources either had projects that were unattainable to me at the time (funding, space, time restrictions) or were way over my head in the knowledge department. My first year gardening was a near disaster… we’re talking waist high weeds, low production, and the big question: what do I do with it now? When I was growing up both of my grandmothers gardened a lot, but back then I didn’t have the interest in it and now I wish I would have paid more attention! Mark, my husband, has helped me learn so much. He’s a 4th generation farmer and both sides of his family have been gardening and raising their own foods for years, so I figured I better jump on that bandwagon and quick! My goal now is to help fill that knowledge gap for you.

I’m no expert and I have had plenty of trial and error runs that have both succeeded and failed. Now several years in and our gardens have been progressively more successful, I feel like I can offer advice to new gardeners and contribute to their goals. I hope my experiences can help guide you and encourage you, so that you can supplement your life with food that you grow yourself, beautiful flowers, and maybe even pick up a new hobby.

I promise to always be honest, and hopefully make you laugh along the way too. If this is your first time here, I recommend heading to my home page and checking out these blog posts to help you get started. Cheers!
